Swan says don’t pilfer pension (Friday 23 October 2009) Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has warned states and territories not to reduce the increased payment to pensioners. Mr Swan says he is concerned that some states and territories are planning to charge pensioners higher social housing rents from next year to reflect the increase in their payments. "This pension increase has been hard-earned and hard-won by Australian pensioners," Mr Swan said. "There's simply no way the Commonwealth will tolerate a clawback of that one-off pension increase by the states for pensioners in social housing."
