Costello quits

Former treasurer Peter Costello has today announced he is quitting politics.

Mr Costello said that he would not contest the next election and would tender his resignation when Parliament resumes.

"I will be sad to say farewell," he said.

“Although I will return to private life, I hope to continue some measure of service to the public in the future.”
