Evans wins world championship

Australian cyclist Cadel Evans has won the world cycling championships in Switzerland overnight, becoming the first Australian to win the title.
After several unlucky near-misses in recent years, including this year’s Tour de France, Evans trumped the rest of the field with four kilometres to go.
Sometimes, it got demoralising to come second so many times. You do the same work and face the same difficulties as the one who wins,” he said.
"But I've always looked ahead to the future and the possibility of winning. I'm very proud to win the first world championship for my country.”
