Beazley appointed US ambassador
(Thursday 17 September 2009)
Former federal opposition leader Kim Beazley was today named Australia’s new ambassador to the United States, taking up the position in February next year.
Currently serving as chancellor of The Australian National University, Mr Beazley said of his new role that he could think of nothing he would rather do.
“We are one of the strongest allies of the US and we speak to the US with the authority of a friend," he said.
"I thoroughly recognise that I'm there to represent the Australian national interest and represent that through the instructions that come to me from the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister."
