Doyle new Lord Mayor (Monday 01 December 2008) Former Liberal Party state leader Robert Doyle has been voted Melbourne's new lord mayor. Mr Doyle easily triumphed against his rivals, in a performance similar to that of John So’s in 2004. Mr Doyle’s win will give him the go-ahead to pursue his contentious policy of returning cars to Swanston Street. Mr Doyle said he was delighted with the support voters had shown him.
