Hartland speaks up on abortion (Tuesday 19 August 2008) Greens MP Colleen Hartland has spoken about her own abortion experience 30 years ago. Her revelation comes as the State Government is expected to establish a bill to legalise abortion in Victoria. "Leaving it in the criminal code means that somehow when you do this it's wrong … and I think these things should be out in the open and people should not be judged," Hartland says. "And I think that's where the church has got it so hideously wrong, in celibate men telling people how to live their lives. It's just not appropriate."
