Munro quits Channel Nine (Tuesday 29 July 2008) Veteran presenter Mike Munro announced yesterday that he will leave the Nine Network after almost 25 years’ service. Mr Munro, who currently reads the network’s weekend news bulletin in Sydney and hosts This Is Your Life, issued a statement yesterday announcing his retirement, effective October 31. “(I) wanted to go at my choosing while I still felt useful,” the statement said. “I’ve given the network three months’ notice and plenty of warning because of my love for Channel Nine and my respect for the staff.” Whilst no further explanation for Munro’s sudden exit was given, sources suggest that Nine’s recent downsizing of news and current affairs – including the cutting of Sunday and Nightline – may have played a part in the decision.
