McNamee sacked as Demons CEO

Paul McNamee today revealed he has been dumped as Melbourne Football Club CEO, just four months after being appointed to the job.

McNamee, the former Australian Tennis Open chief, was hired by now-ousted club chairman Paul Gardiner in April. But, following Jim Stynes’ takeover of the Demons board, McNamee says he is not seen as part of the struggling club’s future.

“We had some pretty bold plans and with the new team coming in, they are going in a different direction,” McNamee told Melbourne sports radio station SEN this morning. “They didn’t want me to be a part of that direction so you move on.

“…they’ve got an agenda and they don’t see me as part of that agenda.”
