McGuane calls for air safety review (Wednesday 9 July 2008) Peter McGuane, the head of Australia’s air traffic control union Civil Air, has called for a review of air safety procedures following a dramatic rise in instances of unsupervised airspace last month. Figures released by Civil Air yesterday revealed almost 100 cases of unsupervised airspace in June – a 63 per cent rise from May and a record figure. Mr McGuane immediately implored the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to act. “We would like CASA to have a very thorough look at these procedures again,” he said. “There is a duty of care on them as a regulator to investigate whether it is appropriate that commercial jets are allowed to fly in this airspace. CASA needs to reassure the travelling public that these procedures are appropriate.” (read the full story at http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23991785-2702,00.html) To view Peter McGuane's full biography, purchase a copy of Who's Who in Australia 2008 or subscribe to Who's Who Live!.
