Fisher rejects Garnaut’s climate solutions (Monday 7 July 2008) Concept Economics Executive Director Dr Brian Fisher says Ross Garnaut’s recommendations for tackling global warming will do more harm to Australia than good. Commenting on Professor Garnaut’s much-anticipated climate change report, which called for Australia to enter into an emissions trading scheme by the year 2010 and invest in clean technology, Dr Fisher said such measures would be useless without worldwide commitment. “Having an emissions trading scheme in Australia will not save the Barrier Reef,” he said. “What we need is full global co-operation.” On clean technologies, Dr Fisher said: “…unless there can be proper account taken of the impact on competitiveness of trade-exposed industries, all we’re going to do is reduce Australia’s welfare, reduce jobs in Australia, and basically make little or no contribution to solving the problem.” (read the full story at http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23979327-2702,00.html) To view Brian Fisher's full biography, purchase a copy of Who's Who in Australia 2008 or subscribe to Who's Who Live!.
