Downer leaving federal politics (Thursday 3 July 2008) Former foreign affairs minister Alexander Downer will provide the details of his plans to leave federal politics today. Mr Downer says he has accepted a position with an Adelaide-based consultancy firm; his position with the UN is yet to be confirmed. "If that position is confirmed then that will also be part-time and the job in the business, well, it will take a bit of time as well," he said. "And I'd be looking forward to taking up two or three directorships that I've been offered as well so they'll be plenty to do."
